How We Evaluated These Devices
Every device is assessed against seven criteria: Design & Build Quality, Light Output & Coverage, Wavelengths & Spectrum, Ease of Use, EMF & Safety, Value for Money, and Brand & Support. Scores are calculated from those seven ratings — never assigned by hand.
A note on evidence framing. Red light therapy is a legitimate field of research with real peer-reviewed support for specific applications. It is also a category with significant marketing exaggeration. Every efficacy statement in this guide uses hedged language (“research suggests”, “studies indicate”) unless evidence is specifically strong and well-replicated. We cite named studies. We do not endorse manufacturer claims that exceed the published evidence.
How to Choose
If you want a panel for full-body treatment: PlatinumLED BioMax 900 (five wavelengths, best irradiance-per-dollar) or Mito MitoPRO 1500 (best large-panel budget value).
If you want a panel for targeted or upper-body treatment: PlatinumLED BioMax 600 (best mid-size value) or PlatinumLED BIO 300 (targeted/portable).
If you want the most credible brand: Joovv Solo 3.0 — but at $400+ premium over PlatinumLED for comparable performance.
If you want a face mask for skin rejuvenation: Omnilux Contour Face (FDA cleared, medical-grade). CurrentBody Series 2 if 1072nm deep NIR is specifically important.
If you want a face mask for acne + aging: Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro (adds blue light).
Budget below $400: PlatinumLED BIO 300 (targeted panel), Mito MitoPRO 750 (mid-size panel), or MitoGLOW (face mask).
