How We Evaluated These Scales

Every scale in this guide is assessed against the same seven criteria: design and build quality, setup and ease of use, measurement accuracy, features and insights, app and software experience, platform compatibility, and subscription and pricing.

Measurement accuracy assessments draw on published BIA validation research (Andreoli et al., 2009; Mialich et al., 2014; Ward et al., 2019), manufacturer specifications, and long-term user data aggregated from verified purchasers across major retail platforms. No scale was purchased or tested independently by GreatHealthGear — verdicts are built from the weight of external evidence.

How to Choose a Smart Scale

Start with your budget. Under £40: Renpho or Arboleaf. £40–60: Eufy P3 or FitTrack Dara. £100: Withings Body+. £120: Garmin Index S2 (if you use Garmin). £190: Withings Body Comp.

Then check your ecosystem. Garmin device users: Garmin Index S2. Fitbit users: Eufy P3 or Renpho. Samsung Health users: Arboleaf or Renpho. Apple Health users: any Withings or FitTrack. No ecosystem preference: Withings Body+.

Then ask what you actually need to measure. Basic weight and fat: any scale above £30. Good fat accuracy: FitTrack Dara or any Withings. Visceral fat and vascular age: Withings Body Comp only. Segmental (per-limb) analysis: Tanita BC-601 only.
